MRS. MELINDA ROLAND MCCRANIE, age 61, of Chester, GA, died Friday, January 14, 2022, at Augusta University Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, January 18, in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Gary Ryals and Mr. John Dykes officiating, with interment at Parkerson Cemetary.
MRS. MARY LILLA JONES GRIMSLEY, age 87, of Albany, GA, formerly of Milan, GA, went to her heavenly home on Friday, January 14, 2022.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 2:00PM Monday, January 17, at Antioch #2 Baptist Church Cemetery, with Reverend Jack Lee officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:30PM-2:00PM for family and friends at the cemetery.
Miss Margaret Sue (Peggy) Burch, age 70, died Friday, January 14, 2022, at Atrium Health Navicent the Medical Center in Macon, GA.
Peggy was born in Eastman, GA, on August 5, 1951. She graduated in 1969 from Dodge County High School and obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology from Agnes Scott College, a Masters’ Degree in Microbiology from the University of Georgia and worked on her Doctorate in Microbiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a Masters’ Degree in Education from Georgian Southern University, and worked on a degree in Music, specifically piano and organ, at Mercer University.
MRS. ETHEL MAE POWELL BLANKENSHIP, age 90, of Perry, GA, died Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Summerhill Senior Living in Perry, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Friday, January 14, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Thomas Carruth officiating, with interment in Orphans Cemetery.

Ann Hemperley Dobbs died peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina. Born on January 24, 1933, she was the daughter of Carlos Mason Hemperley of East Point, GA and Willilu Burch of Eastman, GA. Ann grew up in East Point and completed her BA at Agnes Scott College in Decatur. In 1953 she married Don Dobbs, and in 1955 they moved to Spartanburg, SC where Don joined the faculty at Wofford College and taught Biology for forty years. Shortly after moving to Spartanburg, Ann and Don became members of the First Presbyterian Church where both taught Sunday School. In later years, Ann was a member of the bell choir.
Having studied piano for many years, Ann was an accomplished pianist, and as a young wife and mother she taught piano lessons. In preparation for entering the Spartanburg School System as a teacher in 1969, she completed the first of her two master’s degrees from Converse College. In 1971 she joined the English Department at the Spartanburg Day School where she taught high-school English for twenty-four years.
